My second question is “why don’t you find another job you like?”. Usually this is followed by a stare and look of resignation, with the answer to the question coming with a defeated tone “because I can’t”.

Most people can’t change jobs because they have pursued a career which pays them a salary they enjoy but is not fulfilling. And now they have come to a point in their life where they have matched their lifestyle to meet their income and feel trapped. Sometimes they get out of college and realize that they pursued a degree for the wrong career.

Until you realize the truth in the amazing paradox that the road to wealth has little to do with money, you will block your path to becoming wealthy. Bob Proctors audio book “It’s Not About The Money” is a must if you want to pursue a more fulfilled and abundant life.

Business and personal success are many times intertwined but have distinct differences and nuances that Bob Proctor clearly describes in his audio book. In our personal lives we want to become wealthy but many times don’t understand the meaning of wealth. Bob Proctor gives a non traditional definition of wealth and a road map to pursuing an abundant life.

If you think a business exists only to make money then you need to read this book. You will realize a business exists not to make money but to fulfill a need.

I suggest you listen to this book often either while driving or at home. It will set you on the path to greater wealth in both your personal life an your business. It is not until we realized “it is not about the money”, that we will truly become successful and lead a rewarding and abundant life.

Do you find yourself stuck in a job or business without a purpose and feel unfulfilled? Are loosing customers in your business and your employees are lacking motivation? Do you want to increase your self awareness and lead a more abundant life? If you answered yes to any of these questions I suggest you listen to Bob Proctor’s “It’s Not About The Money”. It could change your life.

What we concentrate our time and energy on is what we become in life. The adage “you are what you eat” can apply to our mind in that we become what we feed our mind.

The Secret by Rhonda Byrne gives insight into how we can affect our lives through what we read, think, feel and do. Byrne’s book is an outstanding compilation of examples of how you can change your life through implementing simple “secrets” such as the power of positive thinking.

I always find it fascinating to hear stories of others success in life. The Secret is full of inspirational stories and practical advice on how to become successful in all areas of your life.

If you read a few pages of this book a day and assimilate the advice and practices described, you will lead a more fulfilling life. I recommend your keeping this book close at all times during the day to use as quick reference when challenges arise.

<img src="http://serendipitousreader.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/FreedomNomics.jpg" alt="" title="FreedomNomics" width="110" height="160" align=left size-full wp-image-107" />
This important book dispels popular economic myths promulgated by the media and the authors of Freakonomics. John Lott explains through his informative and understandable writing, how and why the free market system works. He further dispels many radical and flawed theories by presenting factual and verifiable statistics.

During discussions of important social and economic issues, such as gun control, we often hear a politician on television espousing the need for more gun control and further restrictions on legal personal ownership of hand guns. Lott demonstrates legal guns in the hands of law abiding citizens reduces likelihood of a crime committed against a citizen. States with concealed weapons laws saw a decrease in crime continuing years after the law was enacted. To my amazement, Lott further proves the assault weapons ban did nothing to reduce crime, with the murder rate actually falling after the assault weapons ban was lifted.

An expert in the field of crimes and punishment, Lott was a member of the United States Sentencing Commission from 1988 to 1989, and he has some interesting findings. One finding concluded harsher punishments should be imposed for lesser environmental crimes. The purpose of the larger penalty is to offset the higher probability of smaller criminals getting away with the crime. This is an eye opener on proper sentencing and helped me understand why it is important to enact punishments and deter even the smallest offender. As Lott explains, the smaller offender can easily get away with at environmental crime, because a large oil spill will be noticed before one barrel thrown over the side of a boat.

Lott demonstrates how limited government ownership and controls are beneficial to our economy. Government run organizations such as the postal system lead to predatory pricing by the government when private industry competes. The government can raise prices on services the post office has a monopoly, and reduce prices where they must compete such as express mail. The government was even considered as a solution to subsidize radio broadcasting. In the early days of radio, broadcasters could not figure out how to make customers pay for the service. Thankfully, private industry discovered the radio could be funded not by government, but by commercial advertising.

Reading Freedomnomics will enlighten the reader relating facts which will astonish and sometimes make you want to applaud the free market system. John Lott educated me with other examples of how the free market works, and further explains in a narrative and easy to follow manner why we should continue to allow the free markets to prevail. The statistics and examples he uses are indisputable. This book should be retained as an affirmation when you doubt the benefits of the free market system.

<img src="http://serendipitousreader.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/ItSureBeatsWorking.jpg" alt="" title="ItSureBeatsWorking" width="105" height="160" align=left size-full wp-image-113" />
Michael Katz, in his book “It Sure Beats Working: 29 Quirky Stories and Practical Business Lessons for the First-time, Mid-Life, Solo Professional”, made me feel as if I was involved in a personal conversation with the author through his journey towards becoming a solo professional. While reading, I laughed and shook my head in affirmation while Katz recounted stories which included starting a business, and the lessons he learned while growing his business. Katz candidly divulges his true feelings and experiences, while letting the reader learn from his trials and successes.

Michael began his adult life as most of us do, graduating college and working for a large corporation. As many working professionals can relate, he discovered working in a large company was not his true direction in life. If you are stuck in a cubicle hard at work and are trying to avoid the political drama at work, you will share his angst when he speaks of attending unproductive meetings and his yearning to leave a boring job.

Katz attained his goal of leaving his “secure” job with a large company and striking out on his own. If you are thinking of leaving your job, or you have recently joined the ranks of solo professional, this book is a must for you. The greatest benefit to the reader is the authors ability to candidly tell us his experience, and make the reader realize he is not alone in his struggle to make it in the world as a solo professional.

Since I am also a mid-life individual who changed course in his professional life, I felt as if he was speaking directly to me, although I can’t relate to his struggle with baldness. My hair is all there, but has turned gray.

The chapter I enjoy most is entitled “Become a Leading Expert in Something”. Michael Katz is an expert in development of electronic newsletters, and one day found himself with a client who was a life coach. This life coach had lived the majority of her life with chronic illness, but had not capitalized on her uniqueness in raising a family and building a successful career while battling this illness. Michael while consulting with the life coach on a newsletter was able to refocus her efforts and declare her new expertise. Now the life coach can be defined as an expert in the field of thriving in the workplace while having a chronic illness.

If you are on the fence thinking of starting your own business you will enjoy his “10 Really Good Reasons to Quit Your Job and Start Your Own Business”. Some of the top ten reasons I enjoyed include: dancing to your own music, never having to retire, and finding your purpose.

This book is typical Michael Katz, funny, informative, and a great read. Although his book focuses on the solo professional, much of his advice transcends the sol proprietor and is good advice in being successful in both your personal and business life.

Scientists and economists are working diligently to determine ways of producing sufficient electrical energy to supply our increasing demands. Electrical energy must be produced both economically and with the least environmental impact.

Awareness concerning the increased production of Carbon Dioxide by electrical generation facilities has spurred new interest in energy sources other than fossil fuels. Carbon Dioxide, an odorless colorless gas is an important part of the carbon cycle which consists of the production and consumption of Carbon Dioxide in our earth. The balance of Carbon Dioxide in our atmosphere has increased in part due to our expanding consumption of electrical energy.

The production of electrical energy in the United States is largely dependent on the burning fossil fuels. The burning of fossil fuel such as coal, oil, and gas increase the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, thus negatively impacting the carbon balance in our atmosphere.The increased output is a concern of the citizens in the United States and World, but what can we do to help? Nuclear Energy Now, by Alan Herbst and George Hopley describes how we can solve both our increased need for energy while reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

The authors of Nuclear Energy Now give a compelling explanation as to “why the time has come for the world’s most misunderstood energy source”. I find their solutions easy to understand with a wealth of information to support their thesis.

Nuclear Energy now is a ready reference of information concerning the nuclear energy industry and world energy usage. Persons wanting detail information regarding the benefits of increased nuclear energy production will find a modicum of information. Those wanting to survey the major points with minimal detail, will find their summaries both compelling and logical.

If you are like me and want to receive detailed information concerning the use of Nuclear Energy and the benefits to our environment and economy, this book will serve you well. If you are researching only one aspect of this large and complex issue, you will also find Nuclear Energy Now a necessary reference.

Having observed and worked with wealthy people and people with high incomes I have discovered it is not only how much they make, but how much they save that determines their wealth. The book, The Millionaire Next Door, proves this point and teaches us how these people actually acquired their wealth and how they are able to retain it.

This book is for two types of people, those wishing to become wealthy and those who are curious in learning how the wealthy work, what they own, and how they play. You are in for a true surprise when you discover that not all of them are members of country clubs and purchasers of luxury cars. These are places and things that are for those who want to feel wealthy not necessarily for those who are wealthy.

You will discover that the most purchased model vehicle by the wealthy is a Jeep Grand Cherokee, and the car manufacturer most millionaires buy is Ford; not the Rolls Royce and Mercedes most would think. They also live in upper middle income neighborhoods and are very interested in their children obtaining an education because they know this will give their children the ability to earn a high income.

Read this book and put into action the habits and philosophy of the wealthy in America and you too can become wealthy. If it is that easy then why don’t more people become millionaires? You will discover the answer to this question by reading this book.

Most people want to feel and look wealthy as opposed to actually being wealthy. Many of the wealthy continue their frugal spending even though they do not need to. Most will drive across town to save money purchasing gas on the way to the airport where they board their private jet. You will understand why this seeming paradoxical action by the wealthy makes perfect sense after reading The Millionaire Next Door.
